The Yapathon x 9LYVZ Youth Classic 3v3 is a free, youth men's basketball tournament designed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and positive community engagement for youth in Paterson, New Jersey and surrounding areas.

This event runs on volunteers. We need referees, scorekeepers, media crew, receptionists, and more. Sign up and we'll confirm your role before the event.

Volunteers must be ages 18-70 on event day.

Creating a Yapathon Account & Registration

1. Create a player account with the player's full name, date of birth, and contact information. Info must be accurate. Date of birth must always be the player's own, even if a parent/guardian creates the account. Usernames may be anything appropriate. 2. If the player is under 18, add at least one parent/guardian on the Profile page (Parent/Guardian section). 3. If a parent/guardian is creating the account (common for younger players, no strict age cutoff): - Sign up using the parent/guardian's email/phone as the account contact info. - Enter the player's name and date of birth as the player info. No separate player contact info needed. - Add the parent/guardian's name and contact info in the Parent/Guardian section. 4. Register: Return to this event page, select your league, and click Register. 5. Verification: We'll contact the parent/guardian to confirm registration. 6. Team placement: Once confirmed, create a team, join one, or stay in the general pool for assignment after registration closes.

Parking

Free parking will be made available within the YMCA of Paterson parking lot. The entrance to this parking lot is located on Prince St. The parking lot gate will be held open during the beginning and end of the event. Between those periods, a volunteer will be monitoring access to the gate. Parking availability will be first come, first served. If the parking lot is full, nearby street parking should be available. Paid parking is also available nearby at Center City Mall.

Parents & Guardians

The parent or guardian of a participant under 18 years of age must: 1. Sign The Yapathon's Digital Waiver once it is made available. 2. Be present when dropping off and picking up the participant(s). 3. Have a valid ID when checking in their participant. 4. Must sign the YMCA's Physical Waiver in person at the time of drop-off. Parents & Guardians are allowed to stay and watch in the Y's George Williams Room.

Event Space

Main Gym: The tournament will take place in the main gym. YMCA staff and Yapathon volunteers will direct participants towards this area. George Williams Room: Spectators, parents, and guardians will be allowed to stay in this room to watch the livestream. This room will be air-conditioned and it will also provide snacks and refreshments. This room has a max capacity of 100 people. First come, first serve. Parents & guardians have priority.

Teams and Players

Each league will have 8 teams with 3 players in each team. Registration is first come, first serve. Players may freely create and join teams after being approved by the admin to join the league. Team names must be appropriate. Inappropriate team names will be flagged and removed. Players may be suspended after multiple warnings. Team captains will not be able to remove players from their team. To control access to their team, a team captain may set their team as private. If a team captain creates a public team, they must accept any player that joins their team. The 6 top teams of each league will get to play 3 games. The 2 bottom teams of each league will get to play 2 games.

Tournament Structure

This tournament will feature 15-minute games with 2 minutes of overtime if tied. Games will have a running clock. The opening round will separate teams into a winner's bracket and a redemption bracket. The winner's bracket will play for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The redemption bracket will be single elimination and play for 4th place. Expect these games to be competitive.

Prizes & Gifts

All players receive a limited-edition 9LYVZ jersey and professional digital portraits. Medals will be awarded to the top three teams. First-place teams in both leagues will also receive exclusive 1-of-1 9LYVZ T-shirts. Each player on the winning high school team will receive $75, while each player on the winning middle school team will receive $50.

Livestream

This event will be live streamed through Twitch and YouTube. All participants and volunteers acknowledge that they may/will be part of this livestream including game broadcasting, interviews, entertainment, reactions and more.
